WIP On 3D Warehouse

After a busy few weeks I've returned to this, Finished off the lights round the top edges and done some more ceiling work. I've also uploaded the model in it's present state to 3DWarehouse, feel free to check it out;

Hours of re-work...

Ok, got a fair bit done on this today, done loads of re-work. Doors have all become 6" narrower, making them 3ft wide now which seems far more accurate. Also re done the turbolift area next to Tuvok's console. The console between the chairs has gone in, and I've also done a fair bit more to Tom's console too, but that's far from finished yet.

Better lighting...

I've started adding the upper 'ring lights' as I'm calling them, the blue ones here anyway. I've also found a more natural way of creating the light, as opposed to just making the material emissive. The light now essentially sits behind a diffusing filter which while subtle, looks much better and more realistic in my opinion...

Back to Voyager...

After a good few months away from this, we're back on track. I've just built a new PC so it's much easier to work on this now, it was getting too much for my old rig and renders were taking ages.

So anyway the corridor next to harry's console is finished, and I've started the whole ceiling again, this one is far more accurate, here's how we're looking so far...

I've also pulled the view screen out, that'll need doing again as it was too narrow before.

More light and shadow...

Today's seen a lot more shadowing go in, knocked a quick sky as well to get a rough idea of contrast and colour level...

Not Star Trek, granted...

I've had various Star Trek bits and pieces happening over the last few weeks, including my various SketchUp projects. Along with that I've also been teaching myself to digitally paint, as my girlfriend was kind enough to buy me a Wacom bamboo tablet, and I've built myself a new PC, so Photoshop is nice and snappy!

I did a few tests with it just to get a feel for it, as its a very odd experience at first. In and effort to turn out and actual piece though, I've started a full size drawing, so this is what I'm working on...

The outlines are nearly done (except for the rocks obviously), and after that I'll start working some colour in to get a feel for the actual 'painting' aspect. Doing so much outlining has proven a great way to get a feel for the Bamboo though, and I'm already drawing much straighter lines and smoother curves, I'll keep you all updated...

Corridors and consoles...

Over the last few days I've pulled a lot of Toms console apart as it needs some serious re-work, mainly the top and the large viewing 'TV' that he has. I've spent a great deal of time on this console now and frankly I had to move on to something else to give myself a break.

In light of that I knocked together the rear corridor section that comes in next to Harry's console. Little way to go yet but it's taking shape. I've also included a shot of the completed centre rail console, or 'Sevens console' as I'm calling it...

We're back in business...

Back before Christmas I had two sticks of RAM die, and frankly this made my computer painfully slow as I was back to 2GB ram. Thus, my various Sketchup projects went on hold. Well, I'm back, new ram, and ready to go, so expect to see more updates forthcoming...

I've lots of plans for 2013, obviously work on my Voyager bridge will continue, and I plan to do a Galaxy class bridge too. I've been mulling over in my head various aspects of this and think I've figured out how I'll approach it (Galaxy class bridge is packed full of organically curved surfaces compared to Intrepid class), so its bound to be a challenge, we'll see.
