First animation test
For a first test I'm happy with it, needs a lot of refining though

Back on the Akira
Working on the Akira again getting it to a point where I can start rendering out some animation footage. Also been working on planetary renders. I used Blender Guru's excellent tutorial to get going with the planets then just started fiddling with settings.

So I decided to re-model the whole thing...
I seem to have fallen in to re-modelling the Akira class from scratch.
This is my first 'large' model in Blender so I'm learning a lot as I go
but happy with the progress so far. Getting the shape of the catamarans
right is by far the trickest part but I think they're about as close as
I'm going to get.
Given how low poly the production mesh was I'm allowing myself a little bit of creative licence with some of the details, approaching at as I would were it a 'hero' ship in some cases.

Shuttle Bays Re-Modelled...
Got the shuttle bays re-modelled completely, these look far better in my opinion. I may add a litttle more detail but nothing massive.

PBR and Lighting
It quickly became apparent that I was going to have to UV unwrap the whole model and re-texture it, as well as producing a full set of PBR materials. It's a slow process but we're getting there.
I'm exercising a fair amout of creative licence with the panelling and such like but reffering back to the Akira CG model as well as the 1701-E model to get the look and feel right. I'll probably remodel a lot of the front shuttlebay entrance too as the lack of geometry in that area is letting things down quite a bit in my opinion.
[Update]
With the top of the saucer now given a full diffuse and roughness map, I'm starting to get closer to where I want to be;
